14 Year Old Samaritan Wrongfully Arrested

From the "That's just not right!" files, we bring you the story of Edwin, a mild mannered, soft spoken 14 year old boy from Orlando, FL. Edwin happened to be shopping with his mother at the local Burlington Coat Factory, when he noticed a young girl (3 year old) wandering around without adult supervision. Because they were at the front of the store, and being that he was concerned she was alone, Edwin told his mother that he was going to help the girl find her parents.

When he approached the girl, he noticed a group of women just outside leaving the store. He thought maybe one of the women was the child's mother so he proceeded to walk the girl outside. Moments later, the mother, who was paying at the cashiers and apparently not keeping great tabs on her child, came outside to claim her daughter. She thanked Edwin for keeping her daughter safe.

Edwin returend to his mother and they continued to go clothes shopping. During the child's disappearance from her mother's side, the police were called. When they arrived, they identified Edwin as the man that attempted to walk out of the store with the little girl. Edwin was apporached by the police officer, questioned, arrested, and perp walked out of the store. During this event, local media were contacted about an attempted abduction that was foiled so they arrived and shoved cameras in the young teen's face. His name was also released to the media, which shouldn't have happened considering he's a minor.

So no witnesses came forward saying he did kidnap the girl, the girl's mother said she wasn't pressing charges, rather she was thankful for his good deed, and the officer even noted on his arrest report that it appeared the boy was trying to help the girl, but there was "probable cause" to arrest the teen for charges of "false imprisonment."

How about we arrest this jack ass cop, Sgt. Richard Mankewich, for false imprisonment of Edwin? It gets tougher with every passing day to find true, good, thoughtful, caring people and no wonder why! I guess there's a reason Clare Boothe Luce's quote is timeless "No good deed goes unpunished."

Hopefully, the State Attorney has enough sense to throw all the charges out, and perhaps will look further into this officer's record. We certainly could do with one less Dudley Do Wrong like Mankewich serving and protecting us.

BP Oil Spill, Obama, Rahm and the MSM's Lax Coverage

Imagine that George W. Bush were president right now, and it was revealed that his chief of staff had lived rent free in the home of one of BP's consultants. Do you already hear the echoes of the chants calling for his/her resignation? Do you already see Nasty Pelosi parading in front of every camera and microphone just to call out the so-called "culture of corruption" she vowed to banish? Which of course, the state of political fairs, such as government trust and transparency, have gotten much worse with her and her party at the helm, but I digress. But you know, even if you're Socky, you know somewhere deep inside your brain chasm that the mainstream media (MSM) would be having a field day on this if it was still Dubya's show.

But it's not, it's Obama's. Still, even I'll admit the mainstream media has gotten somewhat tougher on him over the past few months. Sure... gone are the days in which Obama's oratory skills gave Chris Matthews thrills up his legs, and now even ol' snivel face, James Carville, is criticizing Obama's administration for their ineptitude in handling the oil spill. But these criticisms are still mild pleasantries compared to what would've happened had this happened under Dubya's watch and more importantly, if his chief of staff had lived rent free for 5 years courtesy of a BP consultant. Let's note the track record here and conclude what you will:

Obama is the single largest recipient of campaign donations from BP and it's employees.
Obama's right hand man, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, lived rent free in a D.C. apartment for 5 years courtesy of a BP consultant. Not to let it slip notice, that living rent free and not claiming that as income is an obvious income tax violation, but then again, Obama's administration is notorious for this (read: Geithner, top IRS guy).
Since the explosion at Deepwater Horizon and the unfortunate oil spill began, 53 days have passed. In that time, Obama has met with Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and even {gasp} the Jonas Brothers!!! But has yet to meet with the CEO of BP - huh?
In an interview with Matt Lauer, our eloquent, infallible, master of oration, PresBo went off teleprompter when he said he wanted to "know whose ass to kick" over the oil spill. This alarms me for two reasons. First and foremost, what's our omniscient President admitting when he doesn't even know whose ass to kick? Has his head been in the sandpit (Read: too much playing golf reference) for the past 40 days or is he just that stupid? For that, he should kick his own ass. Secondly, did the first real black President (Credits to Clinton for being the first not-real black President) just go thug on us? What's that supposed to prove? Have the pollsters told him that he's too far removed from the street and the likes of folks like Reverend Wright that his street cred has declined and so he's looking to recover? Seriously? Whose ass to kick? C'mon!

Suffice it to say, the MSM's coverage of Obama's handling of the oil spill catastrophe is quite different than what Dubya would have experienced. There are stories, connections, and shenanigans that are continually getting uncovered. We'll continue to do our part here and share those, along with our opinions and observations. Census Jobs: Hire, Fire, Repeat!

Let me start off first with an apology...

It has been far too long since we've convened around the warm glow of the Tribe's fire. Debate, discussion, fun and frivolity have not been experienced here for well over half a year. I will not make excuses, but simply say I'm sorry for that.

Now, we're reloading the Observational Diatribe with a new domain,(note: new website address sans .blogspot), a new backdrop (cluttered desk and files symbolic of the great minds that come here, busy regular people, trying to stay on top of life, work, finances, and everything else that gets thrown at us - or simply the files represent the conspiracy theorists!), some new stuff in the Tribe Store (Check it out, it's undergoing a remodel too!), and some new sponsors (Give em a click!). I won't be able to commit to a post a day, which I struggled with during the Tribe's first iteration (part of the reason I fell off), but I will make regular posts when the mood hits me right. No more 6 month gaps for sure!

Do you recall the news headlines that blasted in April about the jobs recovery? President Obama stated, "We are beginning to turn the corner."? Remember that? Any one see around that corner yet?

Following the lamestream mass media overload of news that shone positive on Obama and his policies, Socky derived that same success conclusion. He emailed, "Well, some ray of hope, we actually posted job gains for the first time in long while. Most expects gains from hereon, should be little easier finding a job..."

Socky makes it too easy for me to counter. I responded immediately, "Gained 200k jobs, 75k to temp census employees, 100k to bad weather bounce back, so it’s a step in the right direction but it isn’t huge – and in the article I read, I missed the notion that this ambiguous “Most” think-tank you refer to sees gains from here on out." Socky refers to this "Most" think-tank quite a bit. I hope they charge him for the vast amounts of service he gets from dropping their name.

Socky's counter came back, "That's why I referred to it as a "ray of hope", implies glimmer, slight. I never said huge. And yes from all the reports I've seen this morning, feel free to check for yourself, economists think we hit the turning point, towards slow recovery and job growth. Census did help, but private industry did hire at least, something we have not see in 27 months. And why are you so pessimistic?"

Let's dissect that last email:

"From all the reports" he saw - aka from the lamestream media, Obama's proponents, his biggest myrmidons. Of course they'd provide any story that shines positive on their Obamessiah.
Socky asserts that we saw some recovery in private industry in that great job number rebound, which I'd love to be optimistic and say, "That's possible... slightly." But that wouldn't be true, not even slightly. In fact, the private sector lost 23,000 jobs in March. That link also discusses the phenomenon of storm rebound when it comes to jobs, but Socky didn't bother to respond to that point.
Lastly, and related to the post title, over half of those terrific jobs that were gained were through the temporary (read: not long term) hire of Census employees. So we have more Federal Government employees on the payroll who provide nothing of value. Let me clarify, they do not produce anything of value or add any material value to the wealth of this nation, they do not produce anything that is sold or even provide a service that is bought. They provide a service per se, in conducting the duties of gathering the Census data, but that doesn't make money, that doesn't create wealth. Nope, in fact, it takes wealth through taxes to create those jobs. When a job number gets published and over half are federal employees - that information should be clearly divulged by the media in the hopes it prevents people like Socky to go running to the streets to celebrate the coming of the economic recovery. An increase in jobs driven mostly by government expansion, is not an indicator of economic recovery. It's an indicator of increased tax burden to pay for those jobs.

Interestingly enough about those Census jobs that were created, that number was inflated. Some of them were duplicates. What am I saying? I'm saying the Census hired and fired several employees in order to provide higher job creation numbers to the Labor Department. No way, that can't be! I see Socky now, assuming he reads this, he's saying, "There's Chief on another hair brained right wing conspiracy theory."
Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. Time will tell. I look forward to seeing more Census workers come forward to pull the covers off these bogus numbers even more. I mean, come on! This is the same government that saved or created 30 jobs with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending in Arizona's 15th congressional district. One problem: Arizona only has eight districts! The current administration has shown to be willful and deliberate in providing false information to support their policies and agenda. Sarcastic curiosity here: Why doesn't Socky's report sources ever document these findings? Hmmmm.... peculiar indeed!
I expect these charades to continue for two more years and that's where my optimism comes in. I'm optimistic that people like Socky come to grips with the wrong decision they made in November 2008, make amends by thinking rationally and clearly about the impact an ill-advised vote can ultimately have, and perhaps make a better informed decision in 2012. If that slim chance doesn't occur, I remain optimisitic because I believe enough citizenry has been typically apathetic to politics and is finally feeling infringed enough by the federal government that they'll show up at the polls and outnumber the rest of you Sockys!

I've been burning though some video games since I signed up on Gamefly, link on the right (hint, hint). I just beat Resident Evil 5 which was a pretty good game, although I must say Spiderman 3 is still the best game I've played to date. Any who... it made me think about that Project Natal again and so to satiate my craving, I searched and stumbled across a few more demo videos. CSIC: Virginia Foxx On Health Care

The ObamaCare plan (as well as basically his entire socialist agenda) has really helped muster the conservative movement. With the swelling support from people via the tea parties and townhall protests, it appears more Republican politicians are willing to reveal their conservative values and openly push back the leftist Democrat agenda.
It spawned a Common Sense in Congress segment last week and has yet another one now, courtesy of North Carolina Congresswoman Virginia Foxx:

Notable statements:

"We have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist, right now, in any country." Right on Mrs. Foxx! The government takeover of our health care system will cause permanent damage to this country, costing trillions of dollars, forcing us to borrow more money from China, and put future generations further in debt. You can't say any terrorist attack has caused harm to the country near that financial cost.

Page 94—Section 202(c) prohibits the sale of private individual health insurance policies, beginning in 2013, forcing individuals to purchase coverage through the federal government

Page 110—Section 222(e) requires the use of federal dollars to fund abortions through the government-run health plan—and, if the Hyde Amendment were ever not renewed, would require the plan to fund elective abortions

Page 111—Section 223 establishes a new board of federal bureaucrats (the “Health Benefits Advisory Committee”) to dictate the health plans that all individuals must purchase—and would likely require all Americans to subsidize and purchase plans that cover any abortion

Page 122—Section 233(a3) requires the new Insurance Czar to issue guidance on best practices of plain language writing. This from the same people that wrote a 1,990 page health care bill which is very difficult to read - so much so, most Democrats admit to not reading it and suggest that anyone wanting to read it or says they read it, won't understand it.

Page 1183—Section 1904 provides $750 million in federal funding for new entitlement programs to offer knowledge of realistic expectations of age appropriate child behaviors and skills for parents to interact with their child. What the hell does this have to do with the access and affordability of health care?

Page 1255—Sections 2231 to 2235 make veterinary students eligible for up to $283 million in federal scholarship and student loan forgiveness funds. Again I ask, what the hell does this have to do with the access and affordability of health care?

Page 1432—Section 2531 provides incentive payments to states that enact new medical liability laws, but only if such laws do not limit attorney's fees or impose caps on damages. So the veterinary lobby gets $283 million in funds on a health care bill and the trial lawyer lobby gets no restrictions on lawsuit limits or fees? How wonderful and anti-corrupt is the Obama Administration and the Nancy Pelosi House? I believe most rational people know the biggest problem with health care costs are caused by the excessive and frivolous lawsuits and subsequent judgments, and increased liability insurance costs(in most instances). I think even Socky would agree with that - so how could the do-good'ing Democrats put this in here? Trial lawyers got their number I suppose.

Virginia is correct, we should be frightened by this bill. Here are some other items it includes:

Page 211—Section 321 establishes a new government-run health plan that, according to non-partisan actuaries at the Lewin Group, would cause as many as 114 million Americans to lose their existing coverage.

Page 225—Section 330 permits—but does not require—Members of Congress to enroll in government-run health care.

Page 255—Section 345 includes language requiring verification of income for individuals wishing to receive federal health care subsidies under the bill—while the bill includes a requirement for applicants to verify their citizenship, it does not include a similar requirement to verify applicants’ identity, thus encouraging identity fraud for undocumented immigrants and others wishing to receive taxpayer-subsidized health benefits.

Page 297—Section 501 imposes a 2.5 percent tax on all individuals who do not purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health insurance—the tax would apply on individuals with incomes under $250,000, thus breaking a central promise of then-Senator Obama’s presidential campaign - although he's broken several promises already.

Page 313—Section 512 imposes an 8 percent “tax on jobs” for firms that cannot afford to purchase “bureaucrat-approved” health coverage; according to an analysis by Harvard Professor Kate Baicker, such a tax would place millions “at substantial risk of unemployment”—with minority workers losing their jobs at twice the rate of their white counterparts.

Page 336—Section 551 imposes additional job-killing taxes, in the form of a half-trillion dollar “surcharge,” more than half of which will hit small businesses; according to a model developed by President Obama’s senior economic advisor, such taxes could cost up to 5.5 million jobs.

Page 520—Section 1161 cuts more than $150 billion from Medicare Advantage plans, potentially jeopardizing millions of seniors’ existing coverage.

Page 733—Section 1401 establishes a new Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research; the bill includes no provisions preventing the government-run health plan from using such research to deny access to life-saving treatments on cost grounds, similar to Britain’s National Health Service, which denies patient treatments costing more than £35,000.

Page 1174—Section 1802(b) includes provisions entitled “TAXES ON CERTAIN INSURANCE POLICIES” to fund comparative effectiveness research, breaking Speaker Pelosi’s promise that “We will not be taxing [health] benefits in any bill that passes the House,” and the President’s promise not to raise taxes on families with incomes under $250,00- Again we know he's broken that seal already!

Read the bill and verify these claims if you (Socky) don't believe it!

I think the president is truly leading this country's change from a capitalist to a socialist society. Recall my point from one of last week's e-mail threads and consider how many Americans (myself included) now depend on the government for sustenance--those who are unemployed, disabled, on social security, on welfare, the bailout, etc. By the very definition, this is the beginning of socialism, or an economic system based on state ownership of capital.

Frankly, I don't agree with Fox's decision to bury the segment on the president's promise on healthcare reform, but at least it's there...if not obscured; who else but assholes like me will read this entire article just to get to the meat?

Promises to Keep: Candidate Obama vs. President Obama

Barack Obama made a lot of promises during his two-year campaign for change.

He pledged to reform the health care system, wind down the war in Iraq, ramp up the war in Afghanistan, change the way the international community views the United States ... all while keeping a sharp eye on spending and shielding the middle class from tax increases.

With the president coming up on the one-year mark since his election, now's a good time to take a look at his track record.

FoxNews.com reviewed some of Obama's biggest campaign promises, and how his actions have measured up. The verdicts are ranked as promise kept, partly kept, work in progress, not yet addressed and promise broken.

AFGHANISTAN

Pledge: "I would send two to three additional brigades to Afghanistan." -- Obama, during a Sept. 26, 2008, debate at the University of Mississippi

Verdict: Promise Kept. Since taking office, Obama has ordered 21,000 troops to Afghanistan. He ordered two brigades to the battlefield in February, and then announced an additional 4,000 troops during a strategy address in March. However, the administration is now mulling Gen. Stanley McChrystal's request for an additional 40,000 troops. As Obama and his security team reassess strategy for the Afghanistan war, it's unclear whether McChrystal's request will be granted.

FORECLOSURE PREVENTION

Pledge: "Obama will create a foreclosure prevention fund to help people facing foreclosure stay in their homes and renegotiate with their lenders or sell their homes." -- Obama campaign policy paper

Verdict: Promise Kept. Obama in February announced a $75 billion foreclosure prevention plan aimed at keeping millions of families in their homes. It was bigger than anticipated and more expensive, drawing its funding from the Wall Street bailout as well as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The plan, though, has gotten off to a slow start with only a fraction of eligible borrowers reportedly participating.

OUTREACH TO MUSLIM WORLD

Pledge: "In the first 100 days of my administration, I will travel to a major Islamic forum and deliver an address to redefine our struggle. I will make clear that we are not at war with Islam." -- Obama, during an Aug. 1, 2007, speech in Washington, D.C.

Verdict: Promise Kept. In early April, Obama delivered an address to the Turkish parliament in which he declared the United States "is not and will never be at war with Islam." Obama gave a similar address in Cairo in June.

HILLARY CLINTON

Pledge: "Well, Hillary, I'm looking forward to you advising me as well." -- Obama, during a Dec. 13, 2007, debate in Des Moines

Verdict: Promise Kept. Though the above quip was not meant as a compliment, Obama ended up following through after he won the election. He appointed Hillary Clinton as his secretary of state.

IRAQ

Pledge: "We can safely redeploy our combat brigades at a pace that would remove them in 16 months -- that would be the summer of 2010." -- Obama, during a July 15, 2008, speech, ahead of his trip to the Middle East

Verdict: Partly Kept. Obama is withdrawing U.S. combat brigades out of Iraq, but on a slightly slower schedule than advertised during the presidential campaign. Obama in February set Aug. 31, 2010, as the deadline for withdrawing combat brigades. That's 19 months, as opposed to 16 months. However, Obama in 2008 clarified that he reserved the right to make "tactical adjustments" to his withdrawal strategy -- he exercised that right after taking office. The Iraq withdrawal is underway and expected to pick up next year. All military personnel are expected to be out of the country by the end of 2011.

MIDDLE-CLASS TAXES

Pledge: "I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes." -- Obama, during a Sept. 12, 2008, speech in Dover, N.H.

Verdict: Partly Kept. Middle-class earners got their tax relief in the $787 billion economic stimulus passed one month into Obama's term. But some claim Obama has broken his pledge by sneaking in taxes and tax-like programs in other areas. Republicans over the summer released a list of six programs and proposals they claim would raise taxes on the middle class -- including the tobacco tax hike and proposals to include coverage mandates in health care reform legislation. After all, the health care reform plan proposed by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., explicitly labeled the penalty attached to the requirement to obtain health insurance as an "excise tax." Back in August, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner suggested tax increases are inevitable. But the White House continued to say the president is committed to shielding those making less than $250,000 from an increase.

DETAINEE TREATMENT

Pledge: "When I am president, America will reject torture without exception. America is the country that stood against that kind of behavior before, and we will do so again." -- Obama, during an Aug. 1, 2007, speech in Washington, D.C.

Verdict: Partly Kept. Obama issued an executive order in January banning "torture" and ordering interrogators to follow the guidelines in the Army Field Manual. He has since moved to overhaul the way interrogations are conducted -- following the recommendations of a special task force which called for the establishment of a High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, to be housed in the FBI and subject to oversight from the White House-based National Security Council. But the president's record on other matters of detainee treatment is not as clear. While he called for an end to "extreme rendition," officials say the controversial practice of rendition, where prisoners are transferred to foreign governments, will continue -- only the administration says it will seek assurances that those prisoners not be "tortured" overseas. While Obama criticized the military commissions system during the campaign, as president he moved to revive it -- only with expanded legal protections for prisoners. And while Obama the candidate called for efforts to "restore habeas corpus," Obama the president has acknowledged that some detainees might have to be imprisoned indefinitely. These changes in tone have drawn heated criticism from civil rights groups.

HEALTH CARE REFORM

Pledge: "Now is the time to finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American." -- Obama, during his Aug. 28, 2008, Democratic nomination acceptance speech in Denver

Verdict: Work in Progress. Obama has made health care reform the No. 1 priority of his first year in office. Despite several delays and roadblocks along the way, all five relevant committees in Congress have passed a version of the bill and the administration is trying to guide a unified package to the floors of the House and Senate. The bill seeks to make health care more "affordable" and "accessible" with new restrictions on the insurance industry and the possible inclusion of a government-run plan. No bill is expected to ensure every single person in America is covered, but estimates show the overhaul would significantly reduce the number of uninsured.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Pledge: "We'll work with Russia to take U.S. and Russian ballistic missiles off hair-trigger alert, and to dramatically reduce the stockpiles of our nuclear weapons and material." -- Obama, in an Oct. 2, 2007, speech in Chicago

Verdict: Work in Progress. Obama has reached out to Russia to work toward that goal. He and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced in July that they were on the path to "reset" relations and laid out the guidelines for a new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START. The treaty is set to expire in December, and a new arrangement would commit the nations to sharper cuts in both warheads and delivery systems. The two countries are still negotiating the treaty.

GUANTANAMO BAY

Pledge: "Guantanamo has become a recruiting tool for our enemies. ... The first step to reclaiming America's standing in the world has to be closing this facility. As president, Barack Obama will close the detention facility at Guantanamo." -- Obama campaign policy paper

Verdict: Work in Progress. Two days after being sworn into office, Obama issued an executive order calling for the detention center at Guantanamo Bay to be closed within one year. However, that effort has hit snags along the way and top officials now warn that it may be difficult to meet the January 2010 deadline. Defense Secretary Robert Gates in September said it would be "tough" to meet that goal. Attorney General Eric Holder conceded the same in early October. "In the end, Guantanamo will be closed," he assured.

FINANCIAL REGULATION

Pledge: "We must build upon the ideas I have laid out over the last several years about how to modernize our financial regulation in this country, and establish commonsense rules of the road for our financial system to help restore confidence in our financial system." -- Obama, during a Sept. 19, 2008, speech in Miami

Verdict: Work in Progress. The Obama administration has proposed a host of financial regulatory measures, including the creation of a consumer protection agency. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke urged Congress last week to take action on such legislation. But some of the swiftest and most decisive changes have come from Obama's so-called "pay czar" Kenneth Feinberg and his interactions with firms that took federal bailout money. Feinberg has already cracked down on executive compensation at Citigroup and Bank of America, and last week ordered steep pay cuts for the seven firms that received the most aid from the rescue package.

IMMIGRATION REFORM

Pledge: "We need comprehensive reform ... We have to require that undocumented workers, who are provided a pathway to citizenship, not only learn English, pay back taxes and pay a significant fine, but also that they're going to the back of the line, so that they are not getting citizenship before those who have applied legally." -- Obama, during a Feb. 21, 2008, debate in Austin

Verdict: Not Yet Addressed. With health care reform, two wars and other major issues on his plate, Obama has conceded he's not getting to immigration reform this year. But during a trip to Mexico in August, the president stressed that he still wants to pursue a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. He said he expected some movement on the issue before the end of the year but nothing concrete until 2010.

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Pledge: "As a senator, I strongly support passage of the Armenian Genocide Resolution, and as president I will recognize the Armenian Genocide." -- Obama, in a Jan. 19, 2008, statement

Verdict: Not Yet Addressed. Obama declined to label the deaths of up to 1.5 million Armenians during World War I as a "genocide" during his trip to Turkey in early April. During a joint news conference alongside Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Obama said he did not want to "focus on my views." Later in the month, he again refrained from calling the massacre a genocide while marking the anniversary of the killings. In a written statement, he said his view of that history "has not changed," but did not use the word genocide.

LOBBYIST RULES

Pledge: "When you walk into my administration, you will not be able to work on regulations or contracts directly related to your former employer for two years." -- Obama, during a June 22, 2007, speech in Manchester, N.H.

Verdict: Promise Broken. This pledge was broken from the very beginning of Obama's presidency, with the nomination of William Lynn as deputy defense secretary. Lynn was registered until last July as a defense lobbyist for Raytheon Co., where he advocated for a range of military programs. Even though Obama did issue the ethics rules he promised on the campaign trail, he ended up issuing a waiver on Lynn's behalf after senators threatened to hold up the nomination. Lynn was confirmed, and the administration continued to grant waivers for subsequent former lobbyists.

SPENDING

Pledge: "When George Bush came into office, our debt -- national debt was around $5 trillion. It's now over $10 trillion. We've almost doubled it. ... But actually I'm cutting more than I'm spending so that it will be a net spending cut." -- Obama, during an Oct. 7, 2008, debate in Nashville

Verdict: Promise Broken. The federal budget deficit for fiscal 2009 tripled to a record $1.4 trillion, according to a Congressional Budget Office estimate out in early October. That's nearly $1 trillion more than the $459 billion deficit recorded in President Bush's last full year. The recession-driven declines in revenue accounted for a large part of Obama's red ink, but so did increases in spending -- on everything from the economic stimulus to Wall Street bailouts (sealed before Obama took office). Though Obama still says he wants to bring the deficit down significantly before the end of his first term, projections show the fiscal 2010 deficit will also exceed $1 trillion. Even if Obama does make major changes to fiscal policy and cut the deficit in half, that's still hundreds of billions of dollars every year to the national debt.

TRANSPARENCY

Pledge: "That's what I will do in bringing all parties together, not negotiating behind closed doors, but bringing all parties together, and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are." -- Obama, during a Jan. 31, 2008, debate in Los Angeles

Verdict: Promise Broken. While Obama and his congressional allies have given countless briefings and speeches on health care reform, much of the negotiations have taken place behind closed doors. These private meetings have grown more common since the Senate Finance Committee passed its version of the bill in mid-October, becoming the last of five congressional panels to clear the bill. Lawmakers are now trying to hammer out versions that can pass the full House and Senate.

HEALTH INSURANCE MANDATE

Pledge: "If you've got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All I'm going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You'll still have choice of doctor. There's no mandate involved." -- Obama, during an Oct. 7, 2008, debate in Nashville

Verdict: Promise Broken. All of the health care reform plans before Congress endorse some kind of requirement for people to get health insurance. And during his Sept. 9 address to a joint session of Congress, Obama endorsed the idea as well. "Improving our health care system only works if everybody does their part," the president said. Obama expressed a wholly different point of view during the Democratic primaries, when one of the few policy differences between him and Hillary Clinton was that she supported an individual mandate while he did not. He persistently defended the decision, arguing that the reason people don't have health insurance is because they can't afford it -- not because they don't want it.

We Have a Rendezvous with Destiny: 45 Years Later

As conservatives face off against Democrats and their own natural party, Republicans, we should remember Ronald Reagan's famous speech.

Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you and good evening. The sponsor has been identified, but unlike most television programs, the performer hasn’t been provided with a script. As a matter of fact, I have been permitted to choose my own words and discuss my own ideas regarding the choice that we face in the next few weeks.

I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines. Now, one side in this campaign has been telling us that the issues of this election are the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The line has been used, “We’ve never had it so good.”

But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn’t something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents out of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector’s share, and yet our government continues to spend 17 million dollars a day more than the government takes in. We haven’t balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We’ve raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don’t own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are 27.3 billion dollars. And we’ve just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.

As for the peace that we would preserve, I wonder who among us would like to approach the wife or mother whose husband or son has died in South Vietnam and ask them if they think this is a peace that should be maintained indefinitely. Do they mean peace, or do they mean we just want to be left in peace? There can be no real peace while one American is dying some place in the world for the rest of us. We’re at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it’s been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. Well I think it’s time we ask ourselves if we still know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding Fathers.

Not too long ago, two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, “We don’t know how lucky we are.” And the Cuban stopped and said, “How lucky you are? I had someplace to escape to.” And in that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there’s no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.

And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man’s relation to man.

This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I’d like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There’s only an up or down—[up] man’s old—old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. And regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

In this vote-harvesting time, they use terms like the “Great Society,” or as we were told a few days ago by the President, we must accept a greater government activity in the affairs of the people. But they’ve been a little more explicit in the past and among themselves; and all of the things I now will quote have appeared in print. These are not Republican accusations. For example, they have voices that say, “The cold war will end through our acceptance of a not undemocratic socialism.” Another voice says, “The profit motive has become outmoded. It must be replaced by the incentives of the welfare state.” Or, “Our traditional system of individual freedom is incapable of solving the complex problems of the 20th century.” Senator Fullbright has said at Stanford University that the Constitution is outmoded. He referred to the President as “our moral teacher and our leader,” and he says he is “hobbled in his task by the restrictions of power imposed on him by this antiquated document.” He must “be freed,” so that he “can do for us” what he knows “is best.” And Senator Clark of Pennsylvania, another articulate spokesman, defines liberalism as “meeting the material needs of the masses through the full power of centralized government.”

Well, I, for one, resent it when a representative of the people refers to you and me, the free men and women of this country, as “the masses.” This is a term we haven’t applied to ourselves in America. But beyond that, “the full power of centralized government”—this was the very thing the Founding Fathers sought to minimize. They knew that governments don’t control things. A government can’t control the economy without controlling people. And they know when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. They also knew, those Founding Fathers, that outside of its legitimate functions, government does nothing as well or as economically as the private sector of the economy.

Now, we have no better example of this than government’s involvement in the farm economy over the last 30 years. Since 1955, the cost of this program has nearly doubled. One-fourth of farming in America is responsible for 85 percent of the farm surplus. Three-fourths of farming is out on the free market and has known a 21 percent increase in the per capita consumption of all its produce. You see, that one-fourth of farming—that’s regulated and controlled by the federal government. In the last three years we’ve spent 43 dollars in the feed grain program for every dollar bushel of corn we don’t grow.

Senator Humphrey last week charged that Barry Goldwater, as President, would seek to eliminate farmers. He should do his homework a little better, because he’ll find out that we’ve had a decline of 5 million in the farm population under these government programs. He’ll also find that the Democratic administration has sought to get from Congress [an] extension of the farm program to include that three-fourths that is now free. He’ll find that they’ve also asked for the right to imprison farmers who wouldn’t keep books as prescribed by the federal government. The Secretary of Agriculture asked for the right to seize farms through condemnation and resell them to other individuals. And contained in that same program was a provision that would have allowed the federal government to remove 2 million farmers from the soil.

At the same time, there’s been an increase in the Department of Agriculture employees. There’s now one for every 30 farms in the United States, and still they can’t tell us how 66 shiploads of grain headed for Austria disappeared without a trace and Billie Sol Estes never left shore.

Every responsible farmer and farm organization has repeatedly asked the government to free the farm economy, but how—who are farmers to know what’s best for them? The wheat farmers voted against a wheat program. The government passed it anyway. Now the price of bread goes up; the price of wheat to the farmer goes down.

Meanwhile, back in the city, under urban renewal the assault on freedom carries on. Private property rights [are] so diluted that public interest is almost anything a few government planners decide it should be. In a program that takes from the needy and gives to the greedy, we see such spectacles as in Cleveland, Ohio, a million-and-a-half-dollar building completed only three years ago must be destroyed to make way for what government officials call a “more compatible use of the land.” The President tells us he’s now going to start building public housing units in the thousands, where heretofore we’ve only built them in the hundreds. But FHA [Federal Housing Authority] and the Veterans Administration tell us they have 120,000 housing units they’ve taken back through mortgage foreclosure. For three decades, we’ve sought to solve the problems of unemployment through government planning, and the more the plans fail, the more the planners plan. The latest is the Area Redevelopment Agency.

They’ve just declared Rice County, Kansas, a depressed area. Rice County, Kansas, has two hundred oil wells, and the 14,000 people there have over 30 million dollars on deposit in personal savings in their banks. And when the government tells you you’re depressed, lie down and be depressed.

We have so many people who can’t see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one. So they’re going to solve all the problems of human misery through government and government planning. Well, now, if government planning and welfare had the answer—and they’ve had almost 30 years of it—shouldn’t we expect government to read the score to us once in a while? Shouldn’t they be telling us about the decline each year in the number of people needing help? The reduction in the need for public housing?

But the reverse is true. Each year the need grows greater; the program grows greater. We were told four years ago that 17 million people went to bed hungry each night. Well that was probably true. They were all on a diet. But now we’re told that 9.3 million families in this country are poverty-stricken on the basis of earning less than 3,000 dollars a year. Welfare spending [is] 10 times greater than in the dark depths of the Depression. We’re spending 45 billion dollars on welfare. Now do a little arithmetic, and you’ll find that if we divided the 45 billion dollars up equally among those 9 million poor families, we’d be able to give each family 4,600 dollars a year. And this added to their present income should eliminate poverty. Direct aid to the poor, however, is only running only about 600 dollars per family. It would seem that someplace there must be some overhead.

Now—so now we declare “war on poverty,” or “You, too, can be a Bobby Baker.” Now do they honestly expect us to believe that if we add 1 billion dollars to the 45 billion we’re spending, one more program to the 30-odd we have—and remember, this new program doesn’t replace any, it just duplicates existing programs—do they believe that poverty is suddenly going to disappear by magic? Well, in all fairness I should explain there is one part of the new program that isn’t duplicated. This is the youth feature. We’re now going to solve the dropout problem, juvenile delinquency, by reinstituting something like the old CCC camps [Civilian Conservation Corps], and we’re going to put our young people in these camps. But again we do some arithmetic, and we find that we’re going to spend each year just on room and board for each young person we help 4,700 dollars a year. We can send them to Harvard for 2,700! Course, don’t get me wrong. I’m not suggesting Harvard is the answer to juvenile delinquency.

But seriously, what are we doing to those we seek to help? Not too long ago, a judge called me here in Los Angeles. He told me of a young woman who’d come before him for a divorce. She had six children, was pregnant with her seventh. Under his questioning, she revealed her husband was a laborer earning 250 dollars a month. She wanted a divorce to get an 80 dollar raise. She’s eligible for 330 dollars a month in the Aid to Dependent Children Program. She got the idea from two women in her neighborhood who’d already done that very thing.

Yet anytime you and I question the schemes of the do-gooders, we’re denounced as being against their humanitarian goals. They say we’re always “against” things—we’re never “for” anything.

Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.

Now—we’re for a provision that destitution should not follow unemployment by reason of old age, and to that end we’ve accepted Social Security as a step toward meeting the problem.

But we’re against those entrusted with this program when they practice deception regarding its fiscal shortcomings, when they charge that any criticism of the program means that we want to end payments to those people who depend on them for a livelihood. They’ve called it “insurance” to us in a hundred million pieces of literature. But then they appeared before the Supreme Court and they testified it was a welfare program. They only use the term “insurance” to sell it to the people. And they said Social Security dues are a tax for the general use of the government, and the government has used that tax. There is no fund, because Robert Byers, the actuarial head, appeared before a congressional committee and admitted that Social Security as of this moment is 298 billion dollars in the hole. But he said there should be no cause for worry because as long as they have the power to tax, they could always take away from the people whatever they needed to bail them out of trouble. And they’re doing just that.

A young man, 21 years of age, working at an average salary—his Social Security contribution would, in the open market, buy him an insurance policy that would guarantee 220 dollars a month at age 65. The government promises 127. He could live it up until he’s 31 and then take out a policy that would pay more than Social Security. Now are we so lacking in business sense that we can’t put this program on a sound basis, so that people who do require those payments will find they can get them when they’re due—that the cupboard isn’t bare?

At the same time, can’t we introduce voluntary features that would permit a citizen who can do better on his own to be excused upon presentation of evidence that he had made provision for the non-earning years? Should we not allow a widow with children to work, and not lose the benefits supposedly paid for by her deceased husband? Shouldn’t you and I be allowed to declare who our beneficiaries will be under this program, which we cannot do? I think we’re for telling our senior citizens that no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds. But I think we’re against forcing all citizens, regardless of need, into a compulsory government program, especially when we have such examples, as was announced last week, when France admitted that their Medicare program is now bankrupt. They’ve come to the end of the road.

In addition, was Barry Goldwater so irresponsible when he suggested that our government give up its program of deliberate, planned inflation, so that when you do get your Social Security pension, a dollar will buy a dollar’s worth, and not 45 cents worth?

I think we’re for an international organization, where the nations of the world can seek peace. But I think we’re against subordinating American interests to an organization that has become so structurally unsound that today you can muster a two-thirds vote on the floor of the General Assembly among nations that represent less than 10 percent of the world’s population. I think we’re against the hypocrisy of assailing our allies because here and there they cling to a colony, while we engage in a conspiracy of silence and never open our mouths about the millions of people enslaved in the Soviet colonies in the satellite nations.

I think we’re for aiding our allies by sharing of our material blessings with those nations which share in our fundamental beliefs, but we’re against doling out money government to government, creating bureaucracy, if not socialism, all over the world. We set out to help 19 countries. We’re helping 107. We’ve spent 146 billion dollars. With that money, we bought a 2 million dollar yacht for Haile Selassie. We bought dress suits for Greek undertakers, extra wives for Kenya[n] government officials. We bought a thousand TV sets for a place where they have no electricity. In the last six years, 52 nations have bought 7 billion dollars worth of our gold, and all 52 are receiving foreign aid from this country.

No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. So governments’ programs, once launched, never disappear.

Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.

Federal employees—federal employees number two and a half million; and federal, state, and local, one out of six of the nation’s work force employed by government. These proliferating bureaus with their thousands of regulations have cost us many of our constitutional safeguards. How many of us realize that today federal agents can invade a man’s property without a warrant? They can impose a fine without a formal hearing, let alone a trial by jury? And they can seize and sell his property at auction to enforce the payment of that fine. In Chico County, Arkansas, James Wier over-planted his rice allotment. The government obtained a 17,000 dollar judgment. And a U.S. marshal sold his 960-acre farm at auction. The government said it was necessary as a warning to others to make the system work.

Last February 19th at the University of Minnesota, Norman Thomas, six-times candidate for President on the Socialist Party ticket, said, “If Barry Goldwater became President, he would stop the advance of socialism in the United States.” I think that’s exactly what he will do.

But as a former Democrat, I can tell you Norman Thomas isn’t the only man who has drawn this parallel to socialism with the present administration, because back in 1936, Mr. Democrat himself, Al Smith, the great American, came before the American people and charged that the leadership of his Party was taking the Party of Jefferson, Jackson, and Cleveland down the road under the banners of Marx, Lenin, and Stalin. And he walked away from his Party, and he never returned til the day he died—because to this day, the leadership of that Party has been taking that Party, that honorable Party, down the road in the image of the labor Socialist Party of England.

Now it doesn’t require expropriation or confiscation of private property or business to impose socialism on a people. What does it mean whether you hold the deed to the—or the title to your business or property if the government holds the power of life and death over that business or property? And such machinery already exists. The government can find some charge to bring against any concern it chooses to prosecute. Every businessman has his own tale of harassment. Somewhere a perversion has taken place. Our natural, unalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation of government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment.

Our Democratic opponents seem unwilling to debate these issues. They want to make you and I believe that this is a contest between two men—that we’re to choose just between two personalities.

Well what of this man that they would destroy—and in destroying, they would destroy that which he represents, the ideas that you and I hold dear? Is he the brash and shallow and trigger-happy man they say he is? Well I’ve been privileged to know him “when.” I knew him long before he ever dreamed of trying for high office, and I can tell you personally I’ve never known a man in my life I believed so incapable of doing a dishonest or dishonorable thing.

This is a man who, in his own business before he entered politics, instituted a profit-sharing plan before unions had ever thought of it. He put in health and medical insurance for all his employees. He took 50 percent of the profits before taxes and set up a retirement program, a pension plan for all his employees. He sent monthly checks for life to an employee who was ill and couldn’t work. He provides nursing care for the children of mothers who work in the stores. When Mexico was ravaged by the floods in the Rio Grande, he climbed in his airplane and flew medicine and supplies down there.

An ex-GI told me how he met him. It was the week before Christmas during the Korean War, and he was at the Los Angeles airport trying to get a ride home to Arizona for Christmas. And he said that [there were] a lot of servicemen there and no seats available on the planes. And then a voice came over the loudspeaker and said, “Any men in uniform wanting a ride to Arizona, go to runway such-and-such,” and they went down there, and there was a fellow named Barry Goldwater sitting in his plane. Every day in those weeks before Christmas, all day long, he’d load up the plane, fly it to Arizona, fly them to their homes, fly back over to get another load.

During the hectic split-second timing of a campaign, this is a man who took time out to sit beside an old friend who was dying of cancer. His campaign managers were understandably impatient, but he said, “There aren’t many left who care what happens to her. I’d like her to know I care.” This is a man who said to his 19-year-old son, “There is no foundation like the rock of honesty and fairness, and when you begin to build your life on that rock, with the cement of the faith in God that you have, then you have a real start.” This is not a man who could carelessly send other people’s sons to war. And that is the issue of this campaign that makes all the other problems I’ve discussed academic, unless we realize we’re in a war that must be won.

Those who would trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state have told us they have a utopian solution of peace without victory. They call their policy “accommodation.” And they say if we’ll only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he’ll forget his evil ways and learn to love us. All who oppose them are indicted as warmongers. They say we offer simple answers to complex problems. Well, perhaps there is a simple answer—not an easy answer—but simple: If you and I have the courage to tell our elected officials that we want our national policy based on what we know in our hearts is morally right.

We cannot buy our security, our freedom from the threat of the bomb by committing an immorality so great as saying to a billion human beings now enslaved behind the Iron Curtain, “Give up your dreams of freedom because to save our own skins, we’re willing to make a deal with your slave masters.” Alexander Hamilton said, “A nation which can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one.” Now let’s set the record straight. There’s no argument over the choice between peace and war, but there’s only one guaranteed way you can have peace—and you can have it in the next second—surrender.

Admittedly, there’s a risk in any course we follow other than this, but every lesson of history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement, and this is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face—that their policy of accommodation is appeasement, and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight or surrender. If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, eventually we have to face the final demand—the ultimatum. And what then—when Nikita Khrushchev has told his people he knows what our answer will be? He has told them that we’re retreating under the pressure of the Cold War, and someday when the time comes to deliver the final ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary, because by that time we will have been weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. He believes this because from our side he’s heard voices pleading for “peace at any price” or “better Red than dead,” or as one commentator put it, he’d rather “live on his knees than die on his feet.” And therein lies the road to war, because those voices don’t speak for the rest of us.

You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery. If nothing in life is worth dying for, when did this begin—just in the face of this enemy? Or should Moses have told the children of Israel to live in slavery under the pharaohs? Should Christ have refused the cross? Should the patriots at Concord Bridge have thrown down their guns and refused to fire the shot heard ’round the world? The martyrs of history were not fools, and our honored dead who gave their lives to stop the advance of the Nazis didn’t die in vain. Where, then, is the road to peace? Well it’s a simple answer after all.

You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, “There is a price we will not pay.” “There is a point beyond which they must not advance.” And this—this is the meaning in the phrase of Barry Goldwater’s “peace through strength.” Winston Churchill said, “The destiny of man is not measured by material computations. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we’re spirits—not animals.” And he said, “There’s something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty.”

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.

We’ll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we’ll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.

We will keep in mind and remember that Barry Goldwater has faith in us. He has faith that you and I have the ability and the dignity and the right to make our own decisions and determine our own destiny.

For three hours that day, no commercial or private planes took off or landed. Three commercial flights leave the airport on weekdays, all bound for Dulles International Airport.

This spring, it was among the first four in the country to receive stimulus funds -- $800,000 for a runway widening project.

Murtha airport's manager said taxpayer money is going to waste at his facility, but not on the runway project. He points to an unstaffed $8 million air traffic radar system installed in 2004. "It's been sitting over there, and that radar has been spinning for all those years with no purpose. Just sitting there," Voelker said.

Last week, dumbfounded jaws hit the floor as it was announced that Barack Obama was awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize. This serves as the final nail in the coffin if there was any doubt that the Nobel Committee is political driven with a leftist agenda, since past recipients include Al Gore (Internet creator and wizard behind the global warming hoax), Kofi Annan (former U.N. Secretary General involved in the Oil-for-Food scandal and other UN indiscretions) and Yasser Arafat (Terrorist) just to name a few of the nominated nitwits.
The Nobel Committee claimed that Obama was selected "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." Say what? The nomination was turned in 11 days into the Obama presidency. What peoples had he united by then? And for that matter, who's united now thanks to him?
Well the Tribe members put their collective brains together in an email thread to compile the following list of accomplishments that helped Obama earn the prize:

Call me cruel, but the reporter interviews the elderly woman that's waiting in line for a handout and she says it's hard on her, hard on her back?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?! You are waiting in line for a hand out! I understand people fall through the cracks and sometimes need a helping hand, but don't play the sympathy card on me when taking my tax dollars for doing nothing but waiting in a line!!! Her attitude is what's wrong with America - entitlement and victim mentality.
She feels entitled to a share of a working person's income just because she breathes and we should feel sorry for her for waiting in a line for a few hours to get it. What about the 40 hr plus work weeks all us working schlubs put in around the nation so Detroit's "homeless" could get stimulated... who feels sympathy for us?
At least the second woman is honest when she says she's not frustrated she's just trying to get that (our) money!
From the same day, Limbaugh exposed audio of Obamessiah worshiping thieves proudly laying claim to our money:

Anybody remember the TV mini-series and short lived show called V, during the early 80's? It was about aliens that visit Earth posing as our friends in need of help, but secretly they try to take us over. They're actually reptilian underneath their human skin and they eat rats and mice. Robert Englund, better known as Freddy Krueger, played an alien that actually befriended the humans and tried to help our cause. Well ABC is going to to relaunch the series 25 years later:

The first Tea Party Express was an overwhelming success even if the lamestream media didn't portray it as such, as Socky noted. It helped to let our politicians know we're paying attention, we see what they are doing, and we will hold them accountable in 2010. I don't think the current stalemate on brObama's health scam, as well as the shriveled cap and trade (tax) plan, would've happened without events like this. Although, one would think that cap and trade should die the way the dinosaurs did considering that the Earth has been cooling for more than a decade and we have record early snowfall in several places including Austria, but I digress.

Obviously, disregard the message at the end to call Congress and demand the public option. Also, you should note that while you were watching this, you thought, "Geez, Chief. It's just a dang comedic video!" then the end came and you saw that this was actually a political advertisement from Moveon.org. Told you it had real intentions to persuade you.

As I mentioned in a post earlier this week, my good buddy and the Tribe's resident Socialist, Socky, visited for the weekend. We kept it mostly peaceful but he did incite some political debate at the dinner table that made our ladies leave us to argue while intoxicated.
Another statement he made that I never got to completely address and feel is more appropriately discussed in this forum, around the Tribe's camp fire was:

"What's the deal with Sarah Palin and the death panels crap? Come one! You buy that crap?!?!" (paraphrased)

I think I was able to squeeze out "Yeah, I..." before he cut me off with something like "You're crazy!" or some other pseudo-derogatory comment like that. Needless to say, I was never able to complete my thought and so I will do that here.

Yes. Yes, Socky, I buy that! Do I think you'll be brought in front of a panel that will determine your death sentence, up or down? No. Do I think that this bill allows the government to intercede in my and my family's health care options which may ultimately result in death? Absolutely!

There's a provision in Section 1233 of HR 3200, entitled “Advance Care Planning Consultation.” It authorizes advanced care planning consultations for senior citizens on Medicare every five years, and more often “if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual ... or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility... or a hospice program." During those consultations, practitioners must explain “the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice,” and the government benefits available to pay for such services.

Now put this in context. These consultations are authorized whenever a Medicare recipient’s health changes significantly or when they enter a nursing home, and they are part of a bill whose stated purpose is “to reduce the growth in health care spending.” Is it any wonder that senior citizens might view such consultations as attempts to convince them to help reduce health care costs by accepting minimal end-of-life care? Let's see what Obama has to say about this:

So rather than you, your family, and your doctor making the decision on what care is appropriate and what you're willing to pay for, as Obama puts it, "We can let doctors know, and your mom know that maybe this isn't gonna help. Maybe you're better off not having the surgery but taking the painkiller." s he have a mouse in his pocket? Who is "We?" Another czar or some bureaucratic committee appointed by the Chosen One? This woman has lived an additional 5 years thanks to modern technology and her doctor's willingness to perform the surgery. That's the way it should be. Why do people like Socky think it should be any different?
By the way, had they placed her mother on painkillers, she would be dead - thus the death panel label.

I briefly described this lady's specific comments to Socky and he stated that should his mother or father reach 100 years, that they've lived a long life and should embrace death. I tried to ask him then, what age is the cutoff? When are you still viable for society to want to keep you living and when should they just usher you to your grave? I never got a response but look forward to one here... possibly. I will remind him when that day comes that it's time for his eternal dirt nap.

Another thing Socky is notorious for, is his "jumping off the bridge after friends" approach by suggesting the U.S. is the only industrialized nation that does not have a national health care system. With that in mind, let's look at some of those death panel successes:

All these serve as current real world examples of the socialized health care death panels at work... government run and rationed care that creates (in some instances, intentionally) death.

I want to squeeze every second out of this wonderful life as I can, I want my wife, my parents, and my kidsto do the same. If I have the will, the support, and the means - who the hell is Socky or Obama to deny me that?!?!?!

I say we start looking at Engineering for government intervention. With all those faulty bridges they design, those levees that break, those roads that constantly are under construction... isn't it time for the federal government to step in and make things right? How about all those rich fat cat engineers making evil profits! It's time to cut them off at the knees - they should be working for free, simply for the betterment of society!

Yeah! That's the ticket! I wonder what Socky the Socialist Engineer thinks about that.

Socky & Tea Party Weekend

So this past weekend, I was visited by my high school/college bud known at the Tribe as Socky. We've been through a lot together and I'd definitely call him one of my best friends, even though I give him conservative jabs here all the time. Typically, when we're not talking politics - we get along real well. However, if someone makes a political comment - it's almost always down hill from there.

He finally introduced me to his lovely fiancée, who we'll call Mrs. Socky here even though it's a bit premature, they seemed like a happy couple and a good fit so fulfilling their nuptials appears to be a foregone conclusion. With his future wife, my wife, and the lil' Chieftain in tow - we dashed cleverly around engaging in political discussions until after a few beers at the brewhouse. Socky launched a political grenade at me and I was sauced enough to want the engagement. Our ladies left the table so we could battle. We jumped erratically from topic to topic as is the nature with inebriated political debate, but Socky made some points I feel like the Tribe is the perfect venue to address.

Today, let's tackle his goof on the national tea parties, specifically the Tea Party Express who ended their nation long tour this weekend. He made two asinine liberally charged comments that didn't sit well with me, that I'll paraphrase:

"Some big deal those tea parties, eh? What, two or thee people show up? Bunch of losers!"

People that know Socky, know there's one major thing he's never been real good at - MATH (especially when the numbers oppose his position on anything)!

I submit video evidence that there was clearly more than two or three protesters... while I know Socky said that to belittle the event and hopefully didn't literally mean two people, his intent was to suggest the gathering was small regardless. Police estimated the crowd at 1.2 million and most news agencies described the crowd as tens of thousands. Some even suggest up to 2 million attended. At any rate, I would say the crowd portrayed in the video is a relevant size representing this country. I personally know someone that made the trip to D.C. just to be heard with the rest of the like minded people tired of BIG GOVERNMENT.

This is not just a two or three person kook movement, the silent majority is tired of being taken advantage and apathy will no longer suffice because government is intervening too much in our lives now to just sit idly by and watch.

Note, that there was no major clean up effort required either as there was after brObama's inauguration - how's that for a bunch of bible clinging, gun toting, astroturfing klansmen, Nancy Pelosi?

"If it was such a big deal, why didn't any of the major news agencies cover it?"

If you don't know by now, Socky is our resident Socialist who believes everything from the prime time channels, CNN, MTV, but disregards anything from FoxNews as propaganda. Lest he except the fact that FoxNews is the highest rated cable news channel, but I digress, those numbers won't add up for him. At the Tribe, we've pointed out several instances of media bias, such as, but not limited to:

We've also shown you how the media worships the Obamessiah, citing the "thrills that go up their legs when he speaks." They've helped create and will maintain the altar that people like Socky come worship at - why then would they tear him down? Why would they show that tens of thousands to two million of your fellow citizens know this guy is wrong for our country - meaning the media is wrong? It doesn't support the media, their candidate, or their agenda. Of course, the tea parties received little to no airplay from the places you get your news Socky.

Now Socky, while you're sitting at home reading this - think honestly to yourself - if one Code Pinko sat outside W.'s ranch - how much of your beloved mainstream media coverage would that garner?

Oh right that really happened, and we heard about it for months - 10's of thousands to 2 million people... barely a peep.

If you can't say that's bias, you're lying to yourself, or maybe the math just don't add up for you?!?!?!

Or maybe you and Mr. Magoo have something in common - blind to the bias.

Faulty Obama Postage Stamp

Apparently, this one is not the government's fault - stamps not sticking to the envelope, so don't hold this against the Post Office:

The Postal Services created a stamp with a picture of President Obama. The stamp was not sticking to envelopes. This enraged the President, who demanded a full investigation. After a month of testing and $1.73 million in congressional spending, a special Presidential commission presented the following findings:

The stamp is in perfect order.
There is nothing wrong with the adhesive.
People were spitting on the wrong side.

So if you want that stamp to stick, spit on both sides!

The town hall furor is starting to shake the pillars in DC. Two days ago, Obama's Health & Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, suggested that providing citizens with the option of government run insurance isn't essential to the proposed healthcare overhaul. Maybe he is listening to the people?
Unfortunately, his cohorts are not. Yesterday, California Representative Maxine Waters said she was "very troubled to hear that after months of negotiations, supposedly moving toward meaningful health-care reform, the public option may in fact be off the table.” Senator Jay Rockefeller said the inclusion of a new public health plan is "a must." Arizona Representative Raul Grijalva said he won't support a plan that is "without a robust public option." Nancy Pelosi said "There is strong support in the House for a public option." and continued, "A public option is the best option to lower costs, improve the quality of health care, ensure choice and expand coverage."

The problem with Nancy's first statement is that while there may be strong support in the House, real Americans are overwhelmingly rejecting this plan. These people represent us and should do what we want them to, right? Think again... this according to Representative Eric Massa (D-NY):

Massa: I will vote for the single payer bill.

Participant: Even if it meant you were being voted out of office?

Massa: I will vote adamantly against the interests of my district if I actually think what I am doing is going to be helpful. (How noble of of this arrogant elitist, eh? This is yet another fine example of liberal political ideology- they know what's better for us because we're just too damn stupid to figure it out.)

(inaudible participants' comments regarding the "interests" of the district statement from Mr. Massa)

Massa: I will vote against their opinion if I actually believe it will help them.

How's that for "Representation?" I hope this district in New York is smart enough to vote this schmuck out of office in 2010!

To Nancy's second statement, that a public option would lower costs, ensure choice and expand coverage... I challenge anyone (read Socky) to name me one thing the U.S. Federal Government has done that was more cost effective than private industry. Let's tackle that first, then talk about her choice and expanded coverage lies.

People are angry and speaking up at every town hall meeting. The majority of Americans do not want our representatives forcing a government mandated health care system down our throats. We're still recovering from the stimulus that bent us over.

With all this angry ruckus, the Democrats have to be hearing us, right?

Hmmmm... it doesn't appear so if you recall Keith Ellison's town hall from last week. Then we have Congresswoman, Sheila Jackson Lee, from Texas:

Is that friggin' unbelievable or what?!?!?! One of your constituents, the people YOU WORK FOR, asks you a question and you answer your cell phone and carry on a conversation! Ms. Lee absolutely does not care to hear what this woman has to say. I hope people remember crap like this come 2010. We need to get these arrogant, beltway elitists out of DC!
